The second generation Firebird saw the Firebird becoming more like a Camaro, but Pontiac still had a few more tricks up its sleeve, especially under the hood. Nothing would rule the mid 1970s quite like the Firebird.
Attempting to capitalize on its new found popularity, Pontiac offered a slew of Special Edition Firebirds including a Gold Trans Am with brown accents and Blue “Sky Bird” and Red “Red Bird” Firebirds. Sales soared to a record 187,285 units, including 93,341 Trans Am’s.
1978 was certainly a banner year. The Pontiac enginners were putting their best effort forward, creating a harmony between horsepower and handling. Over 90,000 Trans Ams, nearly half of the total Firebird production made it into the hands of willing consumers. But with the new fuel economy standards being written, the good times were sure to be short lived.
This 1978 Pontiac Firebird “Formula” is in exceptional shape with just over 76,912 original Miles. This car has been well maintained, and kept in really good condition since new.
